You probably didn’t land on this page by accident.
High power. Glasses since you were a kid. Someone somewhere told you LASIK won’t work for you. Maybe your corneas are too thin. Maybe the power is just too high. So you kept wearing glasses, kept trying contacts, and eventually someone mentioned ICL.
Now you want to know what it actually costs before walking into a clinic. That’s exactly what this page is for.

Type of ICL & Cost Per Eye
Standard ICL (Visian ICL) = ₹60,000 – ₹85,000
Toric ICL (with astigmatism correction) = ₹75,000 – ₹1,00,000
Both eyes together — roughly ₹1,20,000 to ₹2,00,000 depending on which lens and which eye conditions are involved.
These are real numbers for Jalandhar. Not metro city prices. Not suspiciously cheap numbers that hide costs later.
At Narang Netralaya, Dr. Nitish Narang discusses the cost completely at consultation — before any commitment, before any deposit, before anything.
People ask this a lot. Fair question.
LASIK uses a laser to reshape the cornea — no physical implant goes inside the eye. ICL involves placing an actual lens inside the eye, between the iris and the natural lens. That lens — made from a biocompatible material called Collamer — is manufactured to your exact prescription. Custom made for your eye.
That manufacturing cost alone is significant. Add the surgical complexity, the pre-operative mapping needed, and the quality of outcomes expected — ICL consistently costs more than LASIK but for very good reasons.
Think of it this way. LASIK modifies what is already there. ICL adds something superior. And what gets added stays inside your eye for the rest of your life.
Two people walk in for ICL surgery. They leave with different quotes. Here is why:
*Prescription strength matters.* ICL handles a wide range of myopia — from -3 diopters up to -20 diopters and beyond. Higher powers require more precision in lens manufacturing and surgical execution. That affects cost.
*Astigmatism changes the lens type.* A patient with significant cylindrical power needs a Toric ICL — a more advanced lens that corrects both the spherical and cylindrical components simultaneously. Toric ICL costs more than standard ICL but eliminates the need for glasses or contact lenses for astigmatism afterward.
*Both eyes are separate.* ICL surgery is done one eye at a time, usually a few days apart. The total cost covers two complete procedures.
*Pre-operative investigations.* Before ICL surgery, a detailed assessment is done — anterior chamber depth measurement, corneal endothelial cell count, pupil size evaluation, refraction mapping. These investigations confirm whether ICL is safe and appropriate for that specific eye. At Narang Netralaya this is done in-house.
No guessing about what is and is not covered.
The cost includes the complete pre-operative eye assessment, the ICL lens itself, the surgical procedure, operation theatre charges, post-operative medications, and follow-up visits after surgery.
What it does not include — any additional treatment needed if another eye condition is found during assessment. If there is a corneal issue, a retinal finding, or anything unexpected, that gets discussed separately and honestly before any surgery date is fixed.
Straightforward answer — usually no.
ICL surgery is classified as a refractive procedure — meaning it corrects vision rather than treating a disease. Most Indian health insurance policies do not cover refractive surgeries. The logic insurers use is that glasses and contact lenses are an alternative, so ICL is considered elective.
There are exceptions. Some newer comprehensive health policies cover refractive surgeries partially. Worth checking your policy documents specifically for “refractive surgery” coverage before assuming either way.
Narang Netralaya is empanelled with Care Health Insurance, SBI General, Aditya Birla Capital, TATA AIG, Medi Assist TPA, Magma General Insurance, and Genins India TPA. Even if ICL itself is not covered, these empanelments help for any other eye treatment the patient might need.
This comes up at almost every ICL consultation.
LASIK permanently removes corneal tissue. It cannot be undone. For suitable candidates — adequate corneal thickness, moderate prescription, stable refraction — it works very well and costs less than ICL.
ICL adds a lens without touching the cornea at all. It can be removed if needed — making it reversible, unlike LASIK. It handles higher prescriptions more safely. It preserves corneal integrity completely. Night vision tends to be better. And the quality of vision most ICL patients describe afterward is consistently sharper than LASIK.
The higher cost of ICL reflects what you are actually getting — a reversible, cornea-sparing, high-definition vision solution that works for eyes LASIK cannot safely treat.
For patients in Jalandhar who were told they are not LASIK candidates — ICL is not the consolation prize. For many it is genuinely the better option.
Dr. Nitish Narang did not just do a general ophthalmology degree and stop there. After his MBBS and MS Ophthalmology, he went to BW Lions Eye Hospital in Bangalore specifically for a fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment surgery. That training is directly relevant to ICL — because placing a lens inside the eye requires the same precision and understanding of anterior segment anatomy that cornea surgery demands.
He has crossed 20,000 cataract surgeries at Narang Netralaya. That number matters here because the surgical judgment developed over thousands of intraocular procedures directly translates to ICL implantation. These are not unrelated skills.
Pre-operative ICL assessment at Narang Netralaya uses Pentacam corneal topography and anterior segment OCT. Same equipment used in the best eye centres in Delhi and Mumbai. No sending patients to other labs for investigations
Standard ICL starts from ₹60,000 per eye at Narang Netralaya. If you have astigmatism, Toric ICL starts from ₹75,000. The final number gets confirmed after your pre-operative assessment — not before, because every eye is different.
It is designed to stay in permanently. But here is something most people don’t know — unlike LASIK, it can actually be taken out if needed. The cornea is never touched. Nothing is removed or reshaped. So if circumstances change, the lens can come out. That reversibility is one of the biggest advantages ICL has over LASIK.
Generally people with myopia above -6, thin corneas that ruled out LASIK, stable power for at least a year, and enough space inside the eye for the lens to sit safely. Dr. Nitish Narang checks all of this at the first consultation at Narang Netralaya before any decision is made.
Twenty to thirty minutes per eye. Both eyes are done separately — usually a few days apart. You go home the same day. Most people notice the difference in vision within the first twenty four hours.
No injection. Just anaesthetic drops. During the procedure most patients describe feeling mild pressure at most — not pain. Some sensitivity to light the next day is completely normal and goes away on its own.
LASIK runs cheaper — somewhere between ₹25,000 and ₹45,000 per eye in Jalandhar. ICL sits higher at ₹60,000 to ₹1,00,000. People sometimes assume they are being overcharged. They are not. A custom-manufactured lens goes inside your eye. Your cornea stays completely untouched. The outcomes for high myopia are better. The reversibility is there if you ever need it. That is what the price difference actually represents.
