Some doctors are good. Some are experienced. Occasionally, you find one who is both — and who has spent enough years in the operating room that surgery feels less like a procedure to them and more like a conversation they’ve had a thousand times before. Dr Nitish Narang is that kind of surgeon.
He set up Narang Netralaya Eye Hospital in Mota Singh Nagar, Jalandhar. Not a chain. Not a franchise. His own place, built the way he wanted it — where patients actually get seen properly and don’t feel like a number in a queue.
Most people walk in worried about cataracts. Many walk out having had surgery the same day. No injection. No stitch. No bandage. That’s not something he offers on special occasions — it’s just how he works.

He started where most Punjab doctors do — Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana. MBBS done, postgraduate ophthalmology training completed under RGUHS. Solid foundation. But he wasn’t done.
He went to Bangalore. Spent time at the BW Lions Eye Hospital doing a Cornea Fellowship. Then stayed on in the city for a Phacoemulsification Fellowship at Solanki Eye Hospital. After that, a SICS Fellowship at Jagdambe Eye Hospital in Ganganagar.
Three fellowships. Different hospitals, different teachers, different ways of doing things. Most surgeons do one. He did three, and each one added something to how he actually works with patients today.
His first job after training was as a Consultant Eye Surgeon at Mata Amar Kaur Hospital. In two years, he did over 4,000 cataract surgeries.
Think about what that means practically. That’s not a few cases a week. That’s a surgeon who became genuinely good at this — not on paper, but in the room, under pressure, across every kind of patient. Young patients. Elderly patients. People who were scared. People who had already been to three other hospitals.
In 2017, he moved to Vishwakarma Charitable Hospital in Phagwara as a Consultant Ophthalmologist. Still works there. And somewhere in those years in Phagwara, he made a call — he stopped doing conventional cataract surgery. Completely.
Most patients find out there’s more than one way to do cataract surgery only after they’ve already been booked in for it. Which is too late, honestly.
The old method uses an injection to numb the eye. It works — but it’s uncomfortable, it adds recovery time, and for a lot of patients, the needle is the thing they’re most afraid of.
Dr Narang uses drops instead. Anaesthesia through eye drops. The incision is small enough that it doesn’t need a stitch. You leave without a bandage. Recovery is faster. The anxiety going in is lower.
He’s been doing it this way since 2018. Every day. Not as a premium add-on — as his standard. People have started calling him a “Topical Phaco Expert committed to safe and comfortable eye surgery.” He didn’t put that on his own visiting card. Patients and peers did.
Cataracts bring most people in. But Dr Narang sees a wide range of patients at Narang Netralaya — people dealing with cornea problems, infections, and injuries. Patients coming in before surgery need a proper evaluation. People recovering after a procedure who need consistent follow-up, not a different doctor every visit.
He also sees patients for dry eyes, persistent redness, and gradual vision changes — the kind of things people ignore for months before finally coming in.
If something feels off with your eyes, don’t wait for it to get worse. That’s genuinely the only advice worth giving here.
Narang Netralaya Eye Hospital is at #267, Mota Singh Nagar — near the Bus Stand in Jalandhar. Easy to find. Accessible whether you’re local or coming in from a nearby town.
Open since 2022. Small enough that when you book with Dr Narang, you see Dr Narang. That sounds like it should be obvious. In a lot of clinics, it isn’t.
Your Vision. Our Mission.
Look, finding a good eye doctor in Jalandhar is not easy. But if you ask around — in Mota Singh Nagar, in Phagwara, even in Hoshiarpur — Dr Nitish Narang’s name keeps coming up. He did his MBBS from Dayanand Medical College right here in the region. More than 20,000 successful cataract operations done with his own hands. Cataracts, keratoconus, dry eye problems — this is what he does every single day at Narang Netralaya. Come meet him once and you will understand why patients keep coming back.
Mainly four things — and he is really good at all of them:
Cataract Surgery.
Multifocal, Trifocal, Toric and ICL lenses and that too topical (under the anaesthesia effect of eye drops, never use injection to anaesthetise). Not every eye doctor in Jalandhar offers all three. He does treat
Keratoconus eyes with C3R. If Caught early, this condition can be halted from progression . Dr Nitish screens for it properly.
Dry Eye. Very common these days with phones and screens everywhere. He has a proper treatment plan for it — not just eye drops.
More than 20,000. That is not a small number. And the thing patients talk about most is how smooth the recovery is. No pain the next day. No patch over the eye for weeks. It’s a daycare procedure, people go home the same day and are able to see properly within 48 hours. He trained specifically in phacoemulsification in Bangalore — so this is not something he just picked up. He went and learned it properly.
MBBS. Then MS. Then a Fellowship in Cornea & anterior segment — FICA. That fellowship part is important because not many eye doctors in Punjab have cornea-specific training on top of their regular degree. He did additional surgical training in Bangalore & Hyderabad . So when he operates — he has done this thousands of times and trained under proper supervision before that.

Yes, not just surgeries. Many patients come just for a checkup — prescription change, eye strain, blurry vision — and he sees them all. He does not rush patients.
Honestly the cost depends on which lens you pick. Basic lens, multifocal lens, toric lens — each has a different price. Rather than putting a number here that might not apply to your case, just call us at +91 83600 84901. We will tell you exactly what it will cost for your specific situation.
