Why Does It Happen?
High myopia is the most common cause in younger patients. A very short-sighted eye is physically longer than normal — the retina gets stretched thinner across a larger surface. Thin retina tears more easily. Anyone above -6 diopters should get their retina checked regularly even if they feel fine.
